My work continues to evolve in direct response to my environment and life experiences. The central question of my work is "what does it mean to be human?" What is the sum total of one's life, knowledge, observations, perceptions? Daily we experience beauty and beast in ourselves. We analyze our choices, our motives in them. We celebrate our successes and despair in our mistakes; but always we push forward, seeking the true meaning of ourselves.
Enter Glass - a medium that transcends traditional form and function and asks that you only appreciate the depth of its possibilities. It does not ask for you to understand negative spaces or for you to draw before you paint or to stay within the lines. It only asks that you respect it as a fluid, ever-changing collection of molecules that reflects and compresses light in magnificent ways.
It only asks that you imagine the possibilities.
Though a full-time professional career left her only the very late night/early morning hours to explore her new-found passion, she slowly realized that working in her studio into the wee hours were her only hours of passionate labor. Hence, Gina ventured into art glass and interior consultation full time... bidding adieu to a 30 year career and silencing the voices.
Originally from New York, Gina moved to Oregon in 1977. Having lived in the Northwest far longer than the years in NY, she considers herself a native who harbors a little NY edge. Gina resides in Portland with her husband, teenage daughter and a cat that thinks it's a dog. She enjoys creating and incorporating kilnformed glass solutions - tiles, lighting, home furnishings and architectural elements for clients and for the quality urban infill projects she and her husband are proud to develop.
